Outdoor Survival Skills
Even though I’m way into new technology and the newest inventions, I’m also interested in the Primitive Technology that was used for Survival. I believe that primitive technology are the fundamentals of the modern day technology. The process of troubleshooting and joining different pieces or softwares together to create a final product can be parallel to gathering the right wood and parts to create fire.
One of the funnest and most challenging survival skills i’ve learned is how to make fire the primitive way. I know of three different way of making primitive fire. These three ways are called bowdriill, fireplow and handrill. The bow drill is my favourite because it the quickest one the do and I have become very efficient at it. You drill the spindle with your bow pressuring the spindle down on the board with your socket. Once you have enough smoke for acouple seconds you gently remove your spindle. You should have a little pile of blank punk, and it should have smoke. Thats when you know you “busted a coal.” Then you put the hot smoking coal on a tender bundle and blow it into flames. In order to do a bow drill you need a bow with string (shoe lace string works), a socket, spindle, board and a knife to carve a whole with a chimney in the base board. It’s kind of complicated to explain the entire process so I decided i will make a video showing people how make fire using the bow drill.
